Diesel Multiple Unit | Class 158 | Sprinter Trainsets
The British Rail Class 158 is a diesel multiple unit (DMU) passenger train set. It is a member of the Sprinter series of regional trains that were built in Britain between 1989 and 1992 by the British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL). The majority were built as two-car sets with lightweight aluminium bodies, but around 17 three-car sets were also produced.
Each car is powered by a Cummins or a Perkins diesel engine that drives a Voith hydraulic transmission driving axles on the inner bogie. The engines are rated at 350 hp (260 kW) or 400 hp (300 kW) depending on the batch. Maximum speed is 90 mph.

    WAP7 is not run in South India.u can see them hauling passenger trains village to village In The north but rarely seen in Super Fast trains in the South.

    My father is the first loco pilot of vaigai express and pallavan . His name V.Jayaramakrishnan Ex DDI of southern railway madurai division. Proud of him Thanks regards 🙏🙏😍😍 His trial run was at 120kmph for meter gauge ALCO at that time....slept only for 3 hrs per day for nearly one month continuously. Myself consider him as unsung hero IMHO 🙏🙏🙏😍😍 As additional information he took trial runs gor Tamilnadu express also

    I always liked train travel in India better than in Germany. Pleasant climate and open windows was a big part of it. I generally dislike speed above 140 km/h. The eyes can't enjoy the scenery. With open windows and 80 km/h a train ride Goa to Mumbai would be 8 hours plus time for stops. O.k. for me. The journey is the destination.

    You did not touch upon the real functionality of WCAM series, which helped the trains (first) from Bombay central to Virar on 1500V DC traction power supply and then after Virar, passing through a no power zone between two traction poles, switch to 25KV AC

    I have a question and didnt get answer for it after watching this video, single phase 25kV line used here and neutral is grounded through wheel and railway track, now my question is what ever is the amount of current flowing from 25KV phase goes to neutral (ground), how the circuit is completed here, and what about the losses when the neutral is grounded?     Still in Madras the old DC EMU's are retrofitted with AC motors... You can feel the old nostalgia in madras which you experienced in bombay.

    6:47 heat can be used to charge the batteries which can be fitted in the locomotive, which also increases its weight and tractive effort. Dumb indian railways 😏😏 . A first hybrid locomotive in the world could be commissioned by indian railways and gain the credit , if i were in charge. But i wasn't even born at that time.

    Wdg4 top speed is 100kmph. Icf top speed is 110kmph . Barely any difference 😏 ,i.e. Can be used for passenger trains. But chose to waste money on wdp4b,4d.

    for me the real game change changer was WAP 4.. the most successful in the WAP series before WAP 7 .. it had a much sleeker nose then WAP 7 and can still compete with WAP 7 work loads effortlessly. It had it's shortcomings with new tech upgrade needed, hence the birth of WAP 7..

      I think I mentioned that Rajdhani’s will eventually shift to a train set. The VB is the only top end train set in India

    Wdg4 is broad guage, class 66 is standard guage. So, 3041 hp is enough I think 🤔 and shockingly 3.2 tonnes heavier than wdg4 , 105kmph top speed of 66 compared to 85kmph of wdg4 .It's the potential winner here.
